Deck barges are used for transporting big items for construction projects… i.e windmills, boilers, tanks etc There are also deck barges with wallbins – these are side walls to contain cargo This type of barge can be used for transporting bulk sand, rocks and the like. A combi or pusher tug and barge is a dumb barge that gets moved around by a pusher tug. Jack up barges have long support legs that can be raised or lowered and are maneuvered (self-propelled or by towing) into location. Split hopper barges have large open holds, used to load and transport dredged materials.
